Timothy Caulfield, Cyble Young win Science in Society Book Awards

The Canadian Science Writers' Association has named Timothy Caulfield and Cyble Young the winners of the 2015 Science in Society Book Awards.

Caulfield won in the general category for his personal study of celebrity health claims in his bookIs Gwyneth Paltrow Wrong About Everything?. In the book, Caulfield - a Canada Research Chair in Health Law and Policy and a Professor in the Faculty of Law and the School of Public Health at the University of Alberta - investigated the questionable power of celebrity in dictating what constitutes a "healthy" lifestyle.

Toronto-based author/illustrator Cyble Young took the Science in Society Award in the children/middle grades category for her picture bookThe Queen's Shadow: A Story About How Animals See.The book looks into animal eyesight by weaving a whodunit about the theft of the queen's shadow and the possible animal suspects.

The Canadian Science Writers' Association will fete Caulfield and Young at an awards dinner on June 4. Each author will receive a plaque and a $1,000 cash prize.
