Cody Legebokoff, convicted killer, files appeal

Convicted killer CodyLegebokoffhas filed an appeal in Vancouver.

He was convicted in Prince Georgeon four first-degree murder charges. He killedthree women and a 15-year-old girlin northern B.C. between 2009 and2010. He wassentenced to life in prison with no parolefor 25 years.

The father of one ofLegebokoff'svictimssaidhe believes it is a "last ditch effort" and Legebokoffwill "never" be released.

Loren Leslie's father, Doug, said the appeal was an act of desperation.

"Even people in that situation have a hope to get out. But he will never get out. In my opinion, he should never get out," he said.

Still Leslie says the appeal will, in some way, help with the issue of violence against women.

"Let him file an appeal. That's his right and for us, it's actually on a positive note because it does bring awareness."

Defence lawyer EricGottardiconfirmedLegebokoffis appealing theverdict, focusing on his client's failed attempt to change thelocation of the trial.

Legebokoffapplied to move the trial to Vancouver, but B.C.Supreme Court Judge GlenParrettrejected the request.

Gottardi says the judge's written ruling contained disparagingcomments about Legebokoff's defence lawyer at trial, which nowraises questions about the fairness of the trial.
