It's going to be a bright, sunshiny week for most of B.C.

Much of B.C.is in for an extended spell of sunshine as spring inches closer to blossoming.

Matt McDonald, a meteorologist with Environment Canada says "absolutely gorgeous weather" is in store for the province, with daytime temperatures soaring 10 to 11 degrees Centigrade above normal across the South Coast and into the Interior.

"The warmth is not just confined to Metro Vancouver, it's right across the province. Even interior locations are getting into the mid-teens," McDonald said.

Thirteen daily temperature records were shattered across the province this weekendin Prince Rupert, Sechelt, Victoria Harbour, and Port Hardy among others.

Squamish was Canada's hot spot on Sunday with a high of 21.3 C, breaking a daily record of 18 C set in 1983.

"With these ongoing warm conditions, we'll likely be breaking a few more records in the upcoming week," McDonald said.

But with the warm temperatures comewords of caution. Avalanche Canada has issued a special avalanche warning due to the rising temperatures.

Also, McDonald says the UV index has increased to moderate and it is important to cover up to prevent sun burns.

Showers are forecast for the end of the week, but they won't come with an accompanying drop in temperature. McDonald says the longer-term forecast models indicate a warmer-than-normal spring.
