Beltline beating witnesses testify about finding John Herrera Garcia

Several witnesses testified in the trial of three people accused of beating a Calgary man to death in 2012.

Several witnesses testifiedin the trial of threepeople accused of beating a Calgary man to deathin 2012.

JohnHerreraGarcia was heading home from a grocery run when he was attacked in the Beltline. He never recovered, anddiedfour months later.

The Calgary court heard from twomen who tried to help save HerrerraGarcia's life on the night he was beaten.

They were driving along Sixth Street in the city's southwest just after 11 p.m.when they spotted the 49-year-old laying face down in the street.

They say they could hear him gurgling and breathing fast,but he was unable to respond, so they turned him on his side and saw his face covered in blood.

They say they stayed by his side,and reassured him that help was on the way.

At different times during the testimony the three people accused in the deadly beatingChantelle Campbell, Garrett Smith and Jarod Henry couldbe seen to be visibly upset andwiping away tears.

All threeare charged with second-degree murder.It's alleged the triokicked HerreraGarcia in the head repeatedly.

Police have said in the past they believe the attackwas unprovoked.

The trial is set to last threeweeks, but the Crown expects to present all of its case much earlier than that.
