Grizzly sighting prompts Kananaskis trail and day-use area closure

Alberta Parks has closed a trail and day-use area in Kananaskis after a grizzly was spotted feeding on a carcass.

Alberta Parks has closed a trail and day-use area in Kananaskis after a grizzly was spotted feeding on a carcass.

The closure, which affects Black Prince Cirque trail to Warspite Lake and Black Prince day-use area, was posted on Sunday and is in effect until further notice, according to the Parks website.

The agency said that while an advisory is in place for the area, bears can be encountered in Kananaskis at any time.

To avoid any surprise encounters, Alberta Parks suggests:

  • Making plenty of noise.
  • Travelling in groups.
  • Being aware of your surroundings.
  • Keeping pets on leash.
  • Carrying bear spray.

All bear sightings should be reported immediately to 403-591-7755.
