Body found west of Calgary likely linked to burned-car triple homicide, police say

The discovery of a body west of Calgary on Wednesday morning is likely linked to three bodies found in a burning car on Monday, police say.

The discovery of a body west of Calgary on Wednesday morning is likely linked to three bodies found in a burning car on Monday, police say.

"Evidence and information that was garnered at the scene leads us to believe the recovery of this body is likely related to the investigation into the triple murder on Monday," Insp. Paul Wozneysaid.

The body discovered Wednesday was found near the traffic circle at Highway 22and Highway 8.

Traffic was shut down for several hours in the area as officers investigated.

On Monday, a 2011 ChevroletCruz wasfoundburning with three bodies insideat a construction sitein the 100 block of Sage Bluff Circle N.W.

Police earlier said they were looking for 26-year-oldHanockAfowerk, who was the registered owner of the vehicle.

On Wednesday, after the discovery of the body, Wozney said police are no longer searching for Afowerk, but didn't elaborate.

An autopsy on the body found outside of the cityis scheduled for Thursday.

Wozney said police are working to piece together where the victims wentand who they were with in theirfinal hours.

"We're continuing to put together a definitive timeline from Sunday afternoon until Monday morning when the bodies were discovered in Sage Hill," he said.

"Part of that is speaking to witnesses, family, producing phone records, those sorts of things."
