Charges laid in violent armed robbery on International Avenue

Calgary police have laid charges in a violent robbery that took place on International Avenue last year.

Two people have been taken into custody and a third is now wanted on warrants after a public plea for help in locating the suspects.

The incident took place on Jan. 20, 2017, when three masked men stormed into Hemisphere, a store on 17th Avenue S.E.

"Once inside, one of the men grabbed the store manager and held a gun to her head, demanding the keys to the safe," reads a news release from the police.

"At the same time, the other two men went into a back room, grabbed the clerk and forced him to provide keys to the safe."

The suspects then ripped phone cords from the walls and damaged the store's phones before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of money.

The police asked for the public's help in identifying the suspects and as a result of information they receivedcharges were laid this month.

Jahlal Lyndon Pottinger, 23,is charged with:

  • Two counts of robbery with a firearm.
  • Two counts of unlawful confinement.
  • Two counts of pointing a firearm.
  • One count of unauthorized possession of a firearm.
  • One count of being disguised while committing an indictable offence.

Devan Aaron Wright, 23, is charged with:

  • Two counts of robbery with a firearm.
  • Two counts of unlawful confinement.
  • One count of being disguised while committing an indictable offence.

Police are now looking for Majwang Magak, 22, who is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for his suspected role in the robbery.

Magak is described as black, approximately six feet, five inches tall andweighing 160 pounds with short black hair and brown eyes.
