Calgary police impersonation charges laid

Two Calgary men have been charged with impersonating police by setting up a fake Checkstop and then robbing unsuspecting drivers.

A 20-year-old and 24-year-old used a flashing strobe light to pull over cars in Beddington, Harvest Hills and North Haven on Oct. 24 around 11 p.m.

Police took three suspects into custody after locating a Dodge Charger with a strobe light at a home in Beddington Heights, but the third person was determined not to be involved and was released without charge, police said.

The two men are each facing charges offalsely representing themselves to be a peace officer, one count of extortion and one count of robbery,and have court appearances later this month and in December.
