Rally held for woman found dismembered in Calgary park

Friends and family of a woman who was dismembered in Calgary staged a small rally in downtown Calgary.

25-year-old Joey English was reported missing by a family member on June 9.

Parts of her body were found last month in northeast Calgary.

Police made the discovery after being called to a lightly-forested area on the west side of the intersection of Centre Street North and Samis Road, after a call from a passerby.

Joshua Jordan Weise, 40, of Calgary, is charged with offering an indignity to human remains. He was granted bail Thursday.

"It means a lot because I know one voice can't do it alone," said Joey's mother Stephanie English speaking outside the Calgary Courts Centre.

"I'm still waiting for her to come home. She never came home."

Joey's cousin Braelion English says the case highlights the ongoing issue of missing and murdered aboriginal women in Canada.

"It is a consistent thing in our aboriginal communities that women go missing and nothing is really done about it," said English.

"It's only been one month and it's been very difficult to grieve and allow our spirits to heal from this."

"We can't have a funeral because we don't have all of her, which is extremely hard to deal with."
