McDonald's restaurant shuts down 2nd time after employee tests positive COVID-19

A McDonald's restaurant in southeast Calgary has been forced to close its doors for the second time because an employee tested positive for COVID-19.

The worker at the Riverbend location, 20 Riverglen Drive S.E., reported they had the virus on Wednesday, McDonald's Canada said in a release.

"Out of an abundance of caution, McDonald's Canada made the decision to immediately shut down the restaurant for a thorough cleaning and sanitation by a certified third party," said the release.

Any staff members who might have been in close proximity to the infected worker are being asked to self-quarantine until more information is available, the restaurant said.

The employee worked their last shift on Saturday from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m.

Any customers who visited the restaurant on Saturday are asked to take directions from Alberta Health Services by visiting the agency's website.

The same McDonald's restaurant closed its doors in late March after another employee tested positive for COVID-19.

As of Wednesday, there were 203 active cases in the Calgary zone.
