Lane reversal launches Monday on Memorial Drive at Edmonton Trail
Speed limit drops from 70 to 50 km/h, but delays should be cut by 30 per cent
Commuters on Memorial Drive will navigate through anew lane reversal system at Edmonton Trail and Fourth Street N.E., starting Monday.
The changes shouldreduce delays in the area alongMemorial Drive by 30 per cent, according to a city news release.
From 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. on weekdays excluding holidays there will be two left turn lanes from westbound Memorial Drive, allowing drivers to head southbound onto theLangevinBridgeinto the downtown.
The rest of the time, there will betwo left turn lanes from eastbound Memorial Drive, allowing drivers to head northbound on Edmonton Trail N.E.
Only the centre lane will be reversible, which ispart ofseveral changes to the street and intersections meant to improvesafety for pedestrians and cyclists, according to the city.
The changes includereducing the speed limit in the areafrom70 to 50 km/h.
The city created a YouTube video to explain the project and the changes.
