Night home invasions prompt police warning

Police in Calgary are reminding homeowners to lock their windows and doors at night after a couple of late-night home invasions over the weekend, including one where a woman was assaulted.

A woman was alone at her home in the 3100 block of Lake Fraser Court S.E. early Sunday when someone came inside and woke her up. She confronted the intruder, who knocked her unconscious and fled, police said.

The victim was taken to hospital with minor injuries. She was not able to provide police with a description of the offender.

It is believed the culprit came into the house through an open window.

Police are also searching for a man who broke into a house in the 600 block of Brookpark Drive S.W. at about 3 a.m. Saturday.

The offender took a cellphone and several sets of keys before he was confronted by the homeowner.

He ran out the back door, stealing the homeowner's vehicle. Police later found it a short distance away.

The offender is believed to be white, 18 to 22 years old, six feet tall, with an average build. He had brown hair and was wearing a dark blue hooded jacket and blue jeans.

Homeowners should always make sure they lock accessible windows and doors during the night, police said.
