Not all trans fats the same, says Alberta researcher

A researcher from the University of Alberta is trying to change the perception of trans fats, which have been vilified by health care professionals and the media for years.

A researcher from the University of Alberta is trying to change the perception of trans fats, which have been vilified by health care professionals and the media for years.

Dr. Spencer Proctor, the director of the University of Alberta's Metabolic and Cardiovascular Disease Laboratory, says his new research has found that not all trans fats are the same.

Proctor says there are two types: industrial trans-fats which are made by high heat and pressure and natural trans fats found in meat and higher fat dairy products.

He sat down with David Gray, host of the CBC Eyeopener, to share his findings.
