Calgary teacher identified as Auburn Bay homicide victim

Police have charged a man with second-degree murder following the death of a Calgary teacher at a home in southeast Calgary over the weekend.

Police have charged a man with second-degree murder following the death ofa Calgary teacher at a home insoutheast Calgaryover theweekend.

Craig Kelloway, who was originally from Nova Scotia,was a science and math teacher at David Thompson Middle School.

"He was wonderful with the kids," said Marina Monro, thechair ofDavid Thompson's parent council."He was well liked by everyone at the school and he was by far everyone's favourite science teacher."

She said he was among the most popular teachers at the school, even for students who had never taken his class.

"We wish the family our sincerest condolences for their loss and we're very saddened.... He was just absolutely fabulous," said Monro on behalf of the parent council.

Calgary's 8th homicide this year

Emergency crews discovered Kellowaywith critical life-threatening injuries after police were called toa home in the 100 block of Auburn Springs Close S.E. at around 11:30 p.m. MT Saturday. He was later pronounced dead.

Another man was taken into custody without incident at the scene, officials said.

Police announced second-degree murder charges against Nicholas Rasberry, 30, on Monday.

Investigators believe the suspect and victim, who live in the same neighbourhood,met for the first timeearlier onSaturday afternoon atKelloway's home.

Officials said they went to the suspects residence later in the eveningwhere an altercation took place between the two.

Police say other people were present at the home earlier in the evening at a social gathering. Anyone with any information aboutCalgary's eighth homicide thisyearis asked tocontactCalgary policeor Crime Stoppers.

Police say the cause of deathcannot be confirmed until the completion of a scheduledautopsy tomorrow.
