Popular Calgary teacher stabbed to death, autopsy shows

A popular Calgary teacher who was killed over the weekend was stabbed to death, according to autopsy results released Tuesday.

Craig Kelloway, 31, was pronounced deadshortly after police and EMS were called to the 100 block of Auburn Springs Close S.E. around 11:30 p.m. MT on Saturday.

Police arrested Nicholas Rasberry, 30, at the scene and charged him with second-degree murder on Monday.

Kelloway,originally from Cape Breton, N.S., was well-liked by his students at David Thompson Middle School in southeast Calgary, where he taught math and science.

"It seemed like we were more than just students to him, like we were friends to him," said Quinn Finnigan.

"The school just isnt going to be the same without him. Now that hes gone, I dont know, its not going to be as good of a school."

Investigation ongoing

Investigators believe the suspect and victim, who live in the same neighbourhood, met for the first time earlier Saturday afternoon at Kelloway's home.

Officials said they went to the suspects residence later in the evening where an altercation took place between the two.

Rasberry is set to appear in court on Wednesday.
