That election was full of promise for a new vision and direction for the city. So where has that direction taken us?

This week,well be taking a look back at the past year in city hall. Well also have a special feature on Edmontons newest councillors, and how their time in office has changed their outlook on the city and civic politics.

Churchill Square smoking ban and body rub moratorium

Councillors are also getting down to work this week, as the full council meets to discusstwo controversial proposals.

Members of the community services committee sent the Churchill Square smoking ban proposal to council after they failed to come to an agreement about how such a ban would work. The debate will start again on Wednesday.

Councillors will also hear about options for blocking business licenses for any new body rub parlours in town.

This is an issue Coun. Scott McKeen is particularly passionate about. He asked administration to look at creating a moratorium on body rub parlours.

Community members in his ward have been working hard to fight a proposed body rub in the McCauley neighbourhood.A moratorium could put peoples'concerns to rest until the task force looking into the businesses is able to suggest some new regulations.
