McMaster employee tests positive for COVID-19

McMaster University says an employee has tested positive for COVID-19.

A statement from the university says the employee was last on campus on Sept. 8 and notified the university on Saturday thatthey had tested positive.

It notes the employee has been "very helpful in sharing information, which has helped McMaster respond quickly and thoroughly," but does not say where the person worked of what parts of campus they had visited.

The university says any contact tracing that's required is being carried out by public health, which will reach out to anyone who may have been exposed.

It's the second confirmed case connected to McMaster since the summer ended and the fall semester began.

On Aug.31 the university said a graduate student had notified administrators that they had tested positive for the virus.

A spokesperson also described that person as "helpful,"but declined to provide any further details about them or where they had been before the test.

"Identifying information about individuals or building locations will be only be released if deemed necessary for public health reasons," stated Wade Hemsworth, media relations manager, at the time.

In its update Sunday, McMasterremindedstaff, students and faculty that they must use a COVID-19 screening tool within an hour of any visit to a university facility and follow any direction it provides.

Anyone who is feeling sick is asked not to come to campus and instead seek medical advice.
