Susana Dumitru, 29, identified as mother killed in Highway 7 crash west of Kitchener
Her two-month old son was critically hurt in a crash with a suspected drunk driver
Police have identified Susana Dumitru, a 29-year-old woman from London, Ont., as the mother who died in a two-car crash that also left her two-month-old baby boy with critical injuries on Sunday night, west of Kitchener.
OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidtsaid the collision happenedat about 8:30 p.m. Sunday on Highway 7 atTrusslerRdinWilmotTownship.
Four family members, including Dumitru, her husband, their infant son and the boy's grandmotherwere travelling together in a carwhen it was rear-ended by a suspected impaired driver.
Both Dumitru and her infant son were airlifted to hospital, whereDumitruwas pronounced dead and the baby boy remains in critical condition, according to police.
Suspect refused breath sample
The father and grandmother of the baby both suffered minor injuries, according to police.
The OPP says the suspected impaired driver, a 26-year-old Kitchener man, faces eight charges, includingdangerous driving causing death, two counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm, impaired driving causing death andtwo counts of impaired driving causing bodily harm.
Investigators add the suspect has also been charged with failing to provide a breath sample and failingto submit to a drug evaluation following the crash.
Schmidt said the suspectis scheduled for abail hearing Monday in a Kitchener court.
'Please do not drink and drive'
"Please do not drink and drive," said Schmidt.
"If anyone is out enjoying activities that include consumption of alcohol ordrugs, please do not get behind the wheel of a vehicle at any time. It isfar too dangerous. And you can see the tragic outcomes that can come as a result ofthat."
Schmidt said the Cambridge OPP are seeking witnesses to the deadly crash. Police would also like to speak to anyone with dash cam video.
