Waterloo Regional Police were called to UW Place, a residence building onSeagram Drive, on Monday to investigate the death of a 19-year-old University of Waterloo student.

"This tragedy leaves our campus community in mourning and we offer our deepest sympathies to the student's family and friends," saidMatthew Grant, the university's director ofmedia relations and issues management, in astatement emailed to CBC News.

The student is notthe first student to die in residence this year. In January, police found the body of an 18-year-old woman in her dorm room.

The university works directly with police in situations like this and involves campus support services to work with the family and other students and staff who may be affected, saidChris Read, the university's associate provost of students.

"We're in communication with the family that had been impacted and are doing things to help support them," he said

The university is encouraging students or staff who need support to reach out to the university's counselling services andpeer support programs or to contact the post-secondary student help line, Good2Talk.

At this time, the cause of the 19-year-old'sdeath has not been confirmed.
