CAA Manitoba's worst roads list topped by rural roads in 2016

Streets in Carman, Gillam and other rural Manitoba communities have joined roads in Winnipeg on CAA's 2016 list of the province's worst roads, which will be officially unveiled later today.

Main Street North and South in Carman both made the top 10 in CAA Manitoba's fifth annual worst roads campaign, which invited the public to nominate and vote for the most atrocious avenues in the province.

The campaign aims to call attention to the poor state of Manitoba's roads. CAA also wants to make infrastructure an election priority this year as Manitobans go to the polls on April 19.

CAA Manitoba president Mike Mager will officially release the ranked listand name the worst road of the yearat 1 p.m. near the provincial legislature in Winnipeg.

It's not the first time a rural road could top CAA's list.

Highway 280, which connects northern communities such as Gillam and Split Lake to Thompson, beat out perennial Winnipeg favourites St. James Street and Empress Street to snag the dubious title last year.

The highway has made the Top 10 list again this year, along with provincial highways and roads running through Brookdale, Goodlands and Boissevain.

Winnipeg entries inthe top 10 include Ness Avenue, Liberty Street, Pembina Highway and St. James Street.
