A woman ended up with a cut on her forehead while she was being placed in a cell after her arrest, a news release from Manitoba's Independent Investigation Unit says.

The 33-year-old woman was arrested by the Dakota Ojibway Police Service on Aug. 12 for driving offences and Criminal Code violations, a news release from the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba said.

Her forehead was cut while she was being placed in a cell in the Portage la PraireRCMPdetachmen, police said.

The woman was not seriously hurt, but the police watchdog's civilian director instructed the IIU to take over the investigation.

"This investigation is ongoing, so no further details will be provided at this time," the news release said.
