Family of man killed by fire truck forgives

The family of a man killed by a city fire truck Sunday morning says they hold no ill-will against the Winnipeg Fire Department.

James Houle, 47, died after a fire truck responding to an emergency ran him over as he lay in one of the lanes on Redwood Avenue.

"He was there at the wrong place at the wrong time," Houles family said in a written statement to CBC News.

"We the family would like for the fire department to know we hold nothing against the department for our loss. All is forgiven," the statement said.

"We just hope and pray more people in the city will watch over one another, no matter what condition or state they are in. Let all give a watchful eye to those who need it."

No explanation was offered for why Houle was in the street at 4:15 a.m. when he was struck.

A funeral for Houle is being arranged and will take place at the Indian Family Centre on Selkirk Avenue.
