Judy Wasylycia-Leis joins Winnipeg mayoral race

Judy Wasylycia-Leis ispromising to bring honesty and integrity back to Winnipeg city hallas she launches her second bid to become mayor.

The former NDP MP and MLA spoke to reporters as she submitted herpaperwork with the city clerk's office shortly after3 p.m.Monday.

She will alsohold a news conference on Tuesday.

Wasylycia-Leis said if elected, she willfix Winnipeg's crumbling infrastructure and restore publictrust in city hall two issues that she said this year'scampaign will be fought on.

"Certain people have access to city hall and others don't. Some developers have access and others don't. And there's a sense that ordinary voices and real people's concerns are not being heard," she said.

"Probably more than anything else, they really believe that no one is actually listening to them.People I've talked to, neighbours and friends right across this city, want change."

This will mark Wasylycia-Leis's second run for the mayor's job she came in second to current Mayor Sam Katz in the last civic election in 2010, following a hard-fought battle.

Voters willgo to the polls on Oct. 22 to elect a mayor and council.

Also running for mayor this time around are Brian Bowman, Michel Fillion, Paula Havixbeck, Robert Falcon-Ouellette, Gord Steeves and Mike Vogiatziakis.

Katz has not yet indicated if he will seek re-election.

Wasylycia-Leis said she has nearly 2,000 supporters and volunteers ready to go in this campaign. She added that she'll start making campaign promises very shortly.
