2 more Manitoba businesses fined for defying public health orders

A Winnipeg restaurant and a Swan River, Man., hotel are both facing fines for failing to comply withprovincial health orders around the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ramallah Cafe After Hours on Pembina Highway, south of Confusion Corner,and the Westwood Inn in Swan River, about 380 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg, were both ticketed on Thursday,according to aManitoba health protection report.

Ramallah Cafe was fined$486, while Westwood Inn was slapped with a $2,542 fine.

Both establishmentswere operating their dining rooms, in violation of the public health orders, a spokesperson for the province said.

Restaurants are allowed to open outdoor patios and offer takeout or delivery services, but dining rooms must remain closed for now under public health orders. Violating those orderscan cost $486 for individuals and $2,542 for businesses.

As of Monday, restaurants will be allowed to open dining rooms at 50 per cent of their capacity, provided two metres separation can be maintained between customers.

A spokesperson for the Westwood Inn declined to comment on the matter as they're still investigating the fine and determining how they'll respond.

CBC News reached out to Ramallah Cafe After Hours, but didn't immediately receive a response.
