12-hour standoff ends with arrest in Winnipeg's North End

A man wanted in connection to a homicide last month was arrestedafter a 12-hour standoff in Winnipeg's North End that started Monday afternoon and ended Tuesday morning.

A man wanted in connection to a homicide last month was arrestedafter a 12-hour standoff in Winnipeg's North End that started Monday afternoon and ended Tuesday morning.

Police were called around 1:30 p.m. Monday to a home on Anderson Avenue near Salter Street, whereAlex Arumeul Genaille, 23, was believed to be inside.

He wasconsidered armed and dangerous so a large area was cordoned off around the house, police said.

"Over the next twelve hours the incident developed into an armed and barricaded event [and] various tactical operations were deployed to extract the suspect," police said in a news release.

Around 2:30 a.m., officers went into the home and found Genaille hiding and in possession of two firearms.

He was taken into custody and turned over to the police service's Homicide Unit, where he wascharged with second-degree murder in the Dec. 9 death of AnthonySinclair, as well as multiple firearms offences.

Sinclair, 35, was on his way to a convenience store in the area of Stella Avenue and McGregor Street when he was shot. He later died in hospital.

Police are still searching for another man wanted in connection with Sinclair's death.

Thunder Lightning Fontaine, 22, is described asfive feet and eight inches tall, and weighing 176 pounds. He is also considered armed and dangerous, police said.
