Temperatures rise in Winnipeg on Louis Riel Monday

Winnipeggers are in for a mild holiday Monday with temperatures climbing well above normal, while those in the north are bracing for a blizzard.

Winnipeggers are in for a mild holiday Monday with temperatures climbing well above normal, while those in the north brace for a blizzard.

Louis Riel Day will start off with asun-cloud mix in Winnipeg before the cloudstake over and bring a chance of flurries.

But it won't be anything close to what people in Churchill and York are facing. Adeepening low pressure system isbringingwinds of 50-70 km/h, Environment Canada forecasts.

Visibility will be reducedto 400 metres or less in blowing snow.

Theblizzard conditions are expected to continue throughout the day before the system moves out in theevening.

Winnipeg forecast for Monday

  • Mix of sun and cloud, high 3 C.
  • Becoming cloudy near noon.
  • 30 per cent chance of flurries late in the afternoon.
  • TONIGHT cloudy with a 40 per cent chance of flurries.
  • Clearing overnight.
  • Wind becoming north 30 km/h gusting to 50 km/h.
  • Low 18 C with a wind chill of 29.

Normal temperatures for this time of the year are a daytime high of8 C and overnight low of18 C.
