Winnipeg's largest school division is establishing Cree and Ojibwabilingual language programs at Isaac Brock School for the next school year.

Winnipeg School Division is also planning a Spanish bilingual program at Earl Grey School for the 2016 school year.

A minimum of 23 kindergarten students must be enrolled by January 2016 for each language program to proceed.

The division will also increase the number of French immersion schools it has by adding a dual-track language program at Luxton School on Polson Avenue.

That will bring the total number of French immersion schools in the division to 17.

The division will soon begin advertising the new language programs.

After that, the division will have to hire teachers and get curriculum approved by Manitoba Education before it can offer the programs.

Earlier this year, the school division nixed plans to offer a Spanishimmersion programbecause oflow enrolment.
