Winnipeggers march for missing, murdered aboriginal women

Hundreds of Manitobans gathered and marchedto rememberCanada's missing and murdered aboriginal women.

The crowd consisted of families, girls, women and men of all ages.

Organizers said the event wasbeing held on Mother's Day specificallyto highlight the significance and importance of womento give support to those families who have lost a mother.

DeborahMartin-Koophelped organize the event.

She said the missing and murdered women need to be remembered.

"Some of them have left behind children, some of them could have been mothers ... they are also daughters, so Mother's Day seems like a good day for us to remember them.

It's estimated there are more than 800 missing and murdered aboriginal women in Canada alone.

The walk got underway at 1 p.m. at the St. Regis Hotel, where marchers then headed to the Forks.
