COVID-19 in Quebec: What you need to know on Wednesday

- Quebec reported900new cases of COVID-19 and sevenmore deaths onWednesday. One death wasreported in the last 24 hours, and four deaths that occurred between Sept. 30 and Oct. 5 were also added to the total.Since the start of the pandemic, there have been81,914confirmedcases and 5,906peoplehave died.

Officials in Quebec say now is not the time to be hanging out with older family members.
Dr. Mylne Drouin, the public health director for Montreal, says a worrying trend is emerging in the second wave of COVID-19 cases in the city a growing share of new cases are people aged 65 and older.
"Maybe it is not secure to ask for grandpa or grandma to babysit this weekend," Drouin said. "Maybe it's not the time to have supper with the family."

What are the symptoms of COVID-19?
- Fever.
- New or worsening cough.
- Difficulty breathing.
- Sudden loss of smell without a stuffy nose.
- Gastrointestinal issues (such as nausea, diarrhea).

Quebec government reminders for preventing the spread of COVID-19:
- Wash your hands frequently.
- Avoid touching your face.
- Wear a mask or face coveringwhen physical distancing is not possible. Wearing a mask is mandatory in enclosed public spaces across the province.
- Stay at least two metres away from other people as much as possible.
- Self-isolate for 14 days after returning from a stay outside the country.
