Montreal weather update: Cold front sweeps across Quebec

Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning for much of the province of Quebec, advising residents to bundle up and exercise caution on the roads due to the potential for black ice.

Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning this morningfor much of the province of Quebec, advising peopleto bundle up and urging drivers to exercisecaution on the roads due to the potential for black ice.

An arctic air masssweeping across Quebeciscausing extreme wind chill of values ranging from -38 to -43 C.

The cold also took its toll on commuters.

CAA-Quebec said there was a three-hour delay for service on the West Island as many drivers struggled to start their cars.

Extreme cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill createan elevated risk to health, such as frost bite and hypothermia.

It is expected towarm up considerably throughout the day, with the temperature rising to a chilly-11 C by tonight.
