Quebec parties ADQ and CAQ to merge

The leaders of the ADQ and the new Coalition Avenir Quebec are poised to announce a merger of the two parties Tuesday morning.

Grard Deltell and Franois Legault will unveil details of a plan that will bring both parties under one political banner.

Legault's Coalition will merge with the ADQ, giving the new party four seats in the national assembly immediately.

The executive committee of l'Action dmocratique is to meetMonday night to approve the agreement in principle.

Both parties see eye-to-eye on most policies, including the elimination of school boards and cutting other areas of the bureaucracy.

But the merger still has to be approved by card-carrying members of the ADQ.

"I'm sensing resistance" among ADQ members, said ric Caire, an independent MNA and former member of the right-of-centre party.

But Caire says he approves the merger and plans to join the CAQ.
