Shawn Soucy, 16, accidentally left a pocket knife inhis backpack after morning chores on his family's farm in St. Remi, Que.

What was a slip of the mind resulted in Soucy's expulsionin the middle of his finalyear at Heritage Regional High School on Montreal's South Shore.

Most people online sympathized with Soucy'spredicament and thought the Riverside School Board went too far.

Some said the fuss over the pocket knife was much ado about nothing.

Even Soucy's motherweighed in on the debate.
