Soon after her boyfriend was killedin front of her in their Saint John apartment, Megan Ross told a Saint John police officer what she saw.

But when Ross testified Thursday afternoon, she said she doesn't remember very much about the incident. She saidthat she doesn't even remember giving a statement to police.

She was testifying at the trial of Charles William Shatford, 49, and Donald Robert Walker, 51, charged withfirst-degree murder in the death of Justin Breau.

Looking pale and wearing a pink hoodie with the hood up, the 27-year-old said she had been dating Breau for about a year.

She said they lived at 11 Charles St. in apartment "6 or 7"and that Breau had been released from jail four days before his death.

According to all the evidence entered so far, however, it was apartment No.7 at 12 Charles St., and Breau had been released from jail two days before.

Ross said she was making supper when there was a knock at the door and thenthree masked men "busted in" and started stabbing Breau.

She said she doesn't remember anything about the masks, clothing or height of the men.

Even after she was able to refresh her memory about what she told police, Ross said she still couldn't remember anything about the incident.

Ross is expected to continue testifyingon Friday morning when the trial resumes.

On Thursday, the 13-member jury heard from several police officers about the evidence that was collected in the case.

Det. Const. Duane Squires said hundreds of hours of video were gathered from a number of businesses and residences in the north endand in the area around Breau's apartment.

Squires told the jury that was whittled down to a collection of clips that he presented to the court. The snippets of video show the sporadic movements of five men who are only identified by number, not name in the hours leading up to the attack on Breau.

The video also showed the movements of two vehicles a rented Kia and a blue Mazda.

Both vehicles can be seen leaving 15 Celebration St.,at 3:48 p.m., on Aug. 17, 2022.

One minute later, both vehicles are seen turning from Coburg Street to Hazen Street from a surveillance camera at St. Joseph's Hospital.

At 3:50 p.m., a number of individuals can be seen walking from Hazen to Garden Street, in the direction of Breau's apartment.

Six minutes after that, they're seen walking back toward the vehicles.

The court also heard from officers who seized a pair of black sneakers from Walker's apartment at 15 Celebration St. and a pair of white sneakers from Shatford's apartmentat 144 Waterloo St.

Crown prosecutor Christopher Ryan has said both pairs tested positive for blood and Breau's DNA.

Const. Patrick Kenny, with the identification section of the Saint John Police Force, took both pairs of sneakers from sealed evidence bags and showed them to the jury on Thursday.

Kenny also showed the jury a red-handled paring knife, another knife with a long, narrow blade, and a sheath. All were seized from Breau's apartment.

Twenty-five days have been set aside for the trial.
