High-profile lawyers representing accused in Miller homicide

Three of the four people accused of killing Steven Miller, 25, are on the provincial court docket Wednesday. The fourth suspect is on the docket for Thursday.

A number of high-profilecriminal defence lawyers are representing thefour men accused of murdering Steven Miller, 25.

Three of the four suspects appeared in court via video Wednesday morning. The matter was set over until Sept 19.

BobSimmondsand Mike King are representing Kyle Morgan, 19; JonathanNoonanand Randy Pierceywill represent Calvin Kenny, 25; and Bob Buckingham and JohnathanMcDonaldwill representChesleyJohn Lucas, a.k.a. CJ Clarke, 23.

MarkGruchywas alsoin court Wednesday. Gruchy and Jeff Brace'sclient, Paul Connolly, 35, is expected to make an appearance Thursday.

The four are charged with first-degree murder, robbery, forcible confinement and arson with disregard for human life.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary says Miller, 25, was violently abducted from his home in Seal Cove before it was set on fire during the early morning hours of July 30. Connolly, one of the accused, was then found with stab wounds andin serious condition in Paradise.

Shortly after that, Miller's body was discovered in aC.B.S. neighbourhood. Police wouldn't say the cause of Miller's death, but did say he suffered stab wounds.

Morgan, Kenny and Connolly were arrested less than a week after Miller was killed. Lucas's name was released in connection to the murder after the first three men were charged. A Canada-wide warrant was issued for Lucas and he was picked up during breakfast in Halifax.
