170 tickets issued in school zones since 1st day of class
The RNC says since Sept. 7, they've busted drivers who were speeding, distracted or passing buses
In the first eight days of classes this school year,the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary has already issued approximately 170 summary offence tickets under the Highway Traffic Act.
As part of 'Operation: Rally,'the RNC hasstepped up enforcement in school zones in its jurisdiction, with increased patrolsacross the Northeast Avalon, the Corner Brook region and Labrador West since Sept.7.

Police said the most dangerous breachesobserved in school zones arethe passing of school buses and speeding, while distracted driving is stilla major problem.
The force said it has a "zero tolerance"policy for violations in school zones, and the goal of the latest campaignis to educate the public about the perils of unsafe driving practices.
