Iqaluit asks residents to separate cardboard from garbage
City says the request is due to dumpcano
The City of Iqaluit is asking residents to separate cardboard from their garbage due to the ongoing dump fire.
The city is asking that cardboard to be put into separate, blue-coloured bags. Failing that, residents are asked to bundle and tie waste cardboard together with stringto stop scraps from being blown around town.
Separated garbage pickup will start July28.
Two pilot recycling programsin Iqaluit and Rankin Inlet ended in 2010. Officials saidit was too expensive to collect and ship bottles, cans and other recyclables out of Nunavut.
