Makeshift classrooms found for students in Lutsel K'e displaced by mould

Elementary students in Lutsel K'e, N.W.T., are back in school on Monday, after the school district found space to hold classes.

About 40 students had to leave Lutsel K'e Dene School on Thursday after construction workers discovered mould while doing renovations.

On Monday, Joe Pearce, assistant superintendent for the N.W.T.'s South Slave region, said two classes will be held at the Aurora College campus.

Another class is moving to the community arena.

Pearce said high school students will continue to attend classes at the Denesulinebuilding, where they had already been placed because of the renovations.

The construction, which includes work on the classrooms and a library, began in August and had been planned for years,

Pearce said there are ongoing tests for mould, and he doesn't know whether the school will have to be torn down.
