Shuffle coming to Nunavut government positions

Shifts within the Government of Nunavut mean all deputy minister positions in the territory will befilled, says Nunavut Premier Peter Taptuna.

Starting Oct. 6, Rebekah Williams, a former MLA for Quttiktuq, will be promoted from her position as Assistant Deputy Minister for the Department of Justice, toDeputyMinister of Family Services.

Williams has been acting Deputy Minister of Justicesince November 2013 and hasa background in social work and nursing.

Irene Tanuyak, who has nine years experience as an assistant deputy minister within the territorial government, will move from her position with the Department of Culture and Heritage to the assistant deputy minister of Family Services.

I look forward to new leadership in these departments, and to continued progress within these importantportfolios," said PremierPeterTaptuna in a press release. "I will ensure a smooth transition period, to allow incoming incumbents tobecome familiar with the programs, policies and procedures.

There are also shifts within government organizations.

Starting Oct. 14, Peter Ma, who is currently president of the Qulliq Energy Corporation, will becomepresident of Nunavut Arctic College.

AlainBarriault, who served as president of the Nunavut Housing Corporation for a number of years, will become the president of the energy corporation.

Mike Shouldice, who has been the president of Nunavut Arctic College since 2011, is set to retire later next month.
