A low pressure system that brought messy winter weather to the province has forced the eastern most school board in Nova Scotia to cancel classes today.

All schools in the Cape Breton-Victoria Regional School Board are closed. Cape Breton Highlands Education Centre and Academy is closed as well, due to a power outage. It's not clear if that outage is due to the weather. Pleasant Bay has also cancelled classes today.

The system which brought between 15 and 20 centimetres to the Maritimes, madeMonday's rush hour commute a nightmare. The system isstill giving periods of snow to Cape Breton, parts of P.E.I. and New Brunswick.

Precipitation should taper off throughout the afternoon on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, some light snow or rain is expected to move into the Maritime provinces.

Thursday the temperaturewill plunge, thanks to an Arctic front moving from northwest New Brunswick, through to Cape Breton by late Thursday night. The Arctic airwill createa brief period of heavy snow, strong winds and a dramatic drop in temperature.

Friday may be the coldest day of the season, so far, with daytime highs10 degrees below normal.
