Halifax Fire eases recruitment requirements for potential firefighters

For the first time in nine yearsHalifax Regional Fire and Emergency is launching a recruitment drive for people interested in a career in firefighting.

Halifax Regional Council approved a new selection process for recruits earlier this week that removes barriers for new applicants.

The new process eliminates the need for a post-secondary certification and recruitment fees that in the past cost recruitsupwards of $1000.

The HRFEsays the new requirements "eliminates barriers" for those who want a career in fire fighting.

• Grade 12 education
• Nova ScotiaClass 5 Driver's Licence, or equivalent from other province
• Criminal record check with no job-related convictions for an offence which has not been pardoned
• Ability to communicate clearly in English
• 18 or older
• Legally entitled to work in Canada

Potential recruits should be community-minded, highly motivated, physically fit and a team player.
