Homicide victim Terrance Izzard may not have been intended target, say police

Halifax Regional Police say the city's latest homicide victim may not have been the gunman's intended target and are appealing for the public's help in solving the crime.

Terrance Izzard, 58, was shot Monday night on Cragg Avenue in central Halifax. He died later in hospital.

An obiturary posted Friday says Izzardenjoyed spending time with friends, cooking and watching sports.

"He was a kind and gentle soul, always willing to give a helping hand when needed," the obituary said. "He will be sadly and greatly missed.

Izzard was born in Africville, N.S., it said. He went on to work as a ship cook before a long career in the maintenance and janitorial field.

Search for vehicle

Police said Friday they are investigatingthe possibility that Izzard was not the intended target of the shooting.

"We believe, obviously, there's much more information out there in the public," police spokesman Const. Phil Power said.

"We are definitely putting out a call to all residents for anyone that may know any information about Mr. Izzard's murder."

Power said police are also looking for a getaway vehicle that may have been seen fleeing the Gottingen Street-Uniacke Square area around 11 p.m. that night.

"At this point in time we don't have an exact description," Power said. "However we strongly believe that there was a vehicle in flight."

Izzard is Halifax's 11th homicide in 2016. A funeral service is planned for this weekend.
