Atlantic Canada's largest municipality has a new 12 year contract with its police force. Seventy-five percent of members from the Halifax Regional Police and 911 dispatchers agreed to the deal.

They will no longer be allowed to go out on strike. Management won't be able to lock the officers out either.

Mike Balcom is president of the Municipal Association of Police Personnel.

He says officers will get close to a 12 per cent raise over three years.

Some police officers also agreed to a cut in vacation time and more flexible work hours.

That will allow more officers to be on the street during the early morning hours.
