Peace by Chocolate founder and CEO Tareq Hadhad captured video of a section of an Antigonish, N.S., road break apart and fall into a river on Monday around 6:30 p.m.

'We haven't seen anything like this before. It was absolutely terrifying,' says founder of Peace by Chocolate

A section of roadin Antigonish, N.S., collapsed into a river Monday evening.

Tareq Hadhad, founder and CEO of Peace by Chocolate, happened to be driving toward that section of road around 6:30 p.m.when he could see it disintegrating in the distance. He pulled over, took out his phone and started recording.

"That was really scary, we haven't seen anything like this before. It was absolutely terrifying," Hadhad told CBC News.

He said it had been raining heavily in the area.

Hadhad said he was glad there was just enough daylight to see what was happening ahead.

"Even if we were late by two hours, and it was dark in the area, it could have been much worse," he said.

A spokesperson for the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal said crews were out Monday night identifying and marking damaged areas to be addressed Tuesday.

Marla MacInnis said the road in the video is a private road off of Cloverville Road.

"As this land could still be unstable, we ask people stay away from this road," she said in an email.

MacInnis said there were no impassable provincial roads in Antigonish as of Monday night.
