Canadian soldier Howard Richmond repeatedly denies killing his wife in a seven-hour police interview conducted after her body was found in July 2013, his first-degree murder trial heard Thursday.

In the video played in court, he tells police that even though he has post-traumatic stress disorder, he does not experience blackouts or memory loss.

"You've fixated on me and you're not going to look anymore for who killed her," he says, with one fist clenched on his knee.

Howard Richmond, 53, admitted he stabbedhis 28-year-old wife Melissa Richmond to death at the outset of his trial but his defence team is arguing he is not criminally responsible because he was suffering from PTSD caused by six tours of duty.

His lawyers have argued he had no immediate memory of the killing because he was experiencing dissociative flashbacks at the time.

He initially reported to police that his wife went on a late-night drive on July 24, 2013 and never returned to their home in Winchester, Ont., located about 60 kilometres south of downtown Ottawa.

'Time for the truth'

During the marathon interrogation, conducted four days after Melissa Richmond's body was found near South Keys Shopping Centre, he can't explain why his truck was seen in video surveillancefollowing his wife's car into the mall parking lot the night she was killed.

He tellsdetective Chris Benson that it was not him driving the truck.

Benson presses him over and over, accusing him of being jealous that his wife was having an affair.

"She'd planned on leaving you and so you killed her," Benson says.

Richmondraises his voice in response.

"She wasn't leaving me. She was loyal," he says. "Don't start accusing me."

Benson continues to push for a confession.

"Melissa needs justice," he says. "It's time for the truth."

Benson leaves the room and returns with handcuffs to charge him withmurder.
