Doctor's licence suspended indefinitely

The College of Physicians and Surgeons of P.E.I. has suspended the licence of Dr. Douglas Cameron pending a full medical evaluation for neuro-psychiatric disease.

The College of Physicians and Surgeons of P.E.I. has suspended the licence of Dr. Douglas Cameron pending a full medical evaluation for neuro-psychiatric disease.

The Summerside doctor's licence was suspended in 1995 after he was convicted of sexually assaulting three patients. After serving time in prison, his licence was restored.

In a news release Tuesday, the college outlined examinationsCameron would be required to undergo:

  • A full neruo-psychiatric consultation.
  • Neuroimaging to the extent as deemed necessary.
  • A full medical evaluation.
  • Consideration of all collateral medical history.

The testing is to be arranged by the college with copies of all results sent directly to the college.

If those examinations do not reveal any problems, the college would require re-education before restoring Cameron's medical licence.

Even with a clean bill of health and re-education, Cameron would have conditions attached to any restored licence, including a chaperone for all female patients, random blood and urine testing and that his practice be monitored by a mentor.
