The Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) says business optimism on P.E.I. remains strong and is near the highest in Canada.

The findings are based on the CFIB's Business Barometer Index, which measures business optimism on a scale of zero to 100. An index level above 50 means more businesses expect their performance to be stronger in the next year.

A score between 65 and 70 means the economy is "growing at its potential," according to a press release.

P.E.I.'s scored remained steady with 68.5 for October.

Businesses in good health

"Short-term hiring plans are muted, with equal shares of owners planning to increase staff as to reduce employment (six per cent) and with the vast majority of business owners (88 per cent) planning to maintain their staffing levels.

The state of business health also remained unchanged with one-in-two respondents reporting that their firms are in good health,"the release states.
