The bright green parking meters in Charlottetown aimed at raising money for those in need are working, according to the general manager of the Upper Room Hospitality Ministry.

Six bright green repurposed parking meters were installed by Downtown Charlottetown Inc. six months ago.

Mike MacDonald said the meters have yielded between $404 and $700 every two weeks, which the Upper Room splits with the Salvation Army food bank.

"It's easy for people to donate a loonie or a quarter or whatever change they may have in their pocket, and it certainly all adds up," said MacDonald.

"Every dollar in the not-for-profit industry is extremely valuable so we're happy with it. It's certainly made a great impact."
