Seasonal water use restrictions coming for Charlottetown

The City of Charlottetown is reminding residents water use restrictions will be in place for the summer starting Thursday.

Seasonal restrictions were first put in place during a drought in 2012 to reduce the impact on the Winter River watershed, and have been implemented every year since.

"Water is not a resource that we should be taking for granted," said Charlottetown water and sewer committee chair Coun. Eddie Rice in a news release.

"It needs to be protected and conserved in order to be plentiful for future generations."

The restrictions allow for outdoor watering only in the early morning and evening hours. The hosing off of driveways and other hard surfaces is prohibited under the seasonal restrictions.

Further restrictions could be implemented if weather conditions are dry or water extraction rates are high. These would prohibit all lawn watering and limit car washing to once per week.
