First case of seasonal flu comes early on P.E.I.

P.E.I. has had its first confirmed case of flu earlier than usual.

The Island's chief public health officer says cases usually don't start until December or January. But they have already had one confirmed lab case.

Some health professionals say this could be a nastier season for illness because H3N2 is the main strain.

But P.E.I.'s chief public health officerDr. Heather Morrison, doesn't think there is cause for concern.

'Well-matched' vaccine

"It's well matched, the vaccine for that strain of influenza this year, so it's the time to go out and get your influenza vaccine," she said on CBC News: Compass.

Health PEI started offering flu shots at clinics last week.

Flu shots are also now available and many Island pharmacies.
