The Capital District Cyclones are hoping to cheer their way to Vancouver to watch an NHL game.

The Atom team made up girls 8 to 10 years old is one of more than 20finalists in the Rogers Hometown Hockey cheer contest. It's the only P.E.I. team on the list.

"It would be a phenomenal trip for the girls," said Cyclones coach Allan Johnson. "A once in a lifetime experience."

The prize includes a trip to Vancouver for each player, a parent and the coaching staff to see the Vancouver Canucks play the Edmonton Oilers April 9. They will get to perform the cheer live in the Canucks' dressing room.

They will also be invited to the Canucks' game-day skate and a meet and greet with players and alumni, and receive new Bauer hockey sticks.

The Cyclones recorded their cheer back in December.

"The girls kinda went into the dressing room and put it together themselves in about 30 seconds or a minute," Johnson said.

People can vote online until Friday, April 1 at midnight. The winners will be announced Sunday night during the Hometown Hockey show.

"We'll have a pretty excited bunch of girls, I'm sure, in front of the TV on Sunday watching to see if they might be the ones to win," Johnson said.
